Back at Phase 2: Salon Rules

Singapore is back at Phase 2! This is a reminder for all of us to do more on our part as a community. The salon will now be implementing new measures and pressing more on the salon rules to ensure the safety of all staff as well as customers.

Here are things you need to know before you come for your appointment:

  1. Ring the bell and wait outside. There will be temperature screening and checking in before entering the salon. You will be asked to sanitise your hands before entering. If your temperature remains high, we hope you will understand when we ask for you to return another week.
  2. You are only allowed in the salon 5 minutes before your appointment time. Please do inform us if you will be running late. We will need to recheck the schedule to ensure the next customer is not inconvenienced. We hope you will understand if we ask you to rearrange to a later time or day to avoid clashing of appointments and crowding at the waiting area. Do note that appointments are marked as No-Show and cancelled automatically if we do not hear from you within 15 minutes of your scheduled time.
  3. Bring along an extra mask to use during your appointment. It may get wet or stained during chemical services and you will want to replace it at the end of the appointment.
  4. We know that it is more convenient for you to get everything done in 1 visit. However, if you have booked a longer service with your child or elderly parent’s haircut, please arrange for someone to pick them up. They should not be waiting in the salon while you finish doing your hair.
  5. For safety and hygiene reasons, please remove earrings and/or any piercings around your ears before the start of your appointments.
  6. We love that you feel at home while you do your hair and have your food! However, it would be tricky to ensure that you have your mask on at all times. We suggest that you bring some easy snacks instead!
  7. Waiting is not allowed in the salon. Please do not bring along anyone to wait while you do your hair. For parents, do not bring along your children if they do not have a hair appointment.
  8. No more than 2 person is allowed in the waiting area. Please wait outside and we will call you in once your stylist is ready.
  9. If you have booked your appointment together with a friend or a family member, we hope you will understand if we cannot place both of you together while you do your hair. We will certainly try our best to have you seated together!
  10. Thank you for being early! However, the seats might not be ready for you if you reach way before your appointment time. We hope you can understand if we ask you to return later or to wait outside. Try to reach just about 5 minutes before. At least the heat outside won’t be too uncomfortable for you if you have to wait.
  11. We cannot allow re-entering the salon. Smoking will have to wait for after you finish your appointment.

See you at the salon!

We appreciate you

We would like to thank everyone for helping us with implementing the salon rules throughout Circuit Breaker. We know that it was inconvenient for some and we appreciate you for bearing with us during this time.

Just like you, we are equally happy and excited to be able to do all hair services starting 2nd June. While we prepare to receive everyone back at the salon, we will need your help with the upkeep of social distancing measures inside and outside the salon’s premises. There are laws that we must follow and we hope for everyone’s cooperation.

During Circuit Breaker, implementing measures was easier because we were only operating on haircuts. Timekeeping was straightforward that even when appointments clashed, it was not too tricky to get back on track with our schedule. Soon, we are going to start doing all hair services. That means, we are going to have to readjust our style of work to meet the varying service demands. We would like to seek your kind understanding in advance should there be any inconvenienced that you may have felt during your ‘appointment-making’ or your visit at the salon.

We would like to assure you that we will continue to do our best so that it can be an easy breezy experience for you while we hope to get back to the new normal.

Circuit Breaker: Online Booking

If you have been following us on Instagram or on Facebook, you should already know the adjustments we have made:

  • We will be reducing workdays
  • We will be shortening hours at the salon

In order for these to work, we will be selecting days that has the majority of pre-arranged appointments and release slots for booking on weekly basis. These slots will also be with the 2 Director stylist, Ana and Ina as well as Hairstylist Hidayah. This also means that our schedule will not be fixed throughout the week.

For that, we have enabled 24h online booking temporarily to ease the process of arranging a slot with us during CB. You can do so by tapping/clicking on ‘Book Now’ at the top menu. You can also do the same via Facebook and Instagram. Not to worry! We are still a text message away!

Please be reminded that we will continue to implement salon rules during this time. I would like to add that we will not be accepting cash payments. Payments will need to be made by VISA, MasterCard, Amex, Nets, PayNow or PayLah.

Circuit Breaker

As many of you guys know, we are on ‘Circuit Breaker’. And this, has finally affected the salon directly. Essentially, haircuts will not be of any issue for us to continue to accept as appointments. However, anything more than just a haircut will now need to be cancelled effective 7th April Tuesday.

Slots from today, 4th April to 6th April are fully booked. Please do update us promptly if you prefer to cancel your appointment during this period to allow others that will need the slot more. We hope to be able to resume business fully by the 5th of May.

This has been a difficult time for us too as a family business. However, the overwhelming care and concern that many of you shown has been the most valuable to us and that, has kept us going. Thank you for your continuous support and understanding all this time.

Let’s all work together to end this pandemic sooner than later. Stay safe and be responsible.

In light of COVID 19, we urge all customers to adhere to the following salon rules for the safety of our customers and crew members:

  • The salon operates strictly by appointment.
  • All payments are to be made by card only. No cash payments.
  • Please ensure that you have QR scanner in your phone for SafeEntry check in and out.
  • We aim to spend 10 – 15 minutes for each haircut. Please reschedule your appointment if you are going to be late. This is to avoid overlapping of appointments and crowding in the salon.

  • You are only allowed to arrive 5 minutes before your appointment time. This is to avoid crowding in the waiting area and to refrain from re-entering the salon.
  • Group bookings are not allowed. For elderly caretakers and parents of young children, you are only allowed to come for your appointment(s) in a pair based on the earlier (e.g. 3pm) if you have booked 2 consecutive slots.
    i.e 3.00pm 1 parent + 3.20pm 1 child and 3.00pm 1 caretaker + 3.20pm 1 elderly
  • Do not bring along additional persons without an appointment as this will also affect the number of persons allowed in the salon at a single time.

  • Please reschedule if you are serving a QUARANTINE ORDER, LEAVE OF ABSENCE, STAY HOME NOTICE or 5 days MC.

Online Booking?

I wonder what’s the turn out if we enable online booking. We are probably one of the few salons that do not have the 24h booking service available. Note: Online bookings that we are referring to here are those with instant confirmation.

I remember those days when we were writing appointments on paper. Each customer had to repeat their phone numbers EVERY SINGLE TIME! The rules were obvious: 1) Write within your own column 2) No striking; erase mistakes, changes and cancellations. Everyone need to be able to understand what’s written. It was epic remembering the amount of holes and tears we made just from rubbing!

In year 2012, I started to transfer bookings on excel spreadsheet. It should not have been a big change but for many of us that are so used to holding scissors and hairbrushes, the keyboard was a challenge. The most important knowledge I impart to everyone at that time was… the shortcut to copy and paste! It was absurd, I know. But, the last thing we want to do was to get phone numbers wrong!

In year 2015, we integrated fully to an online appointment system. Our favourite feature is the SMS reminders that are automatically generated 24 and 3 hours before clients appointment time. It reduces the number of no show appointments and allow us to focus better working. So, wouldn’t it be a lot more efficient to enable online bookings as well? It does sound like the most apparent thing we should do! But, what’s going to happen to personalisation in service?

If you have ever contacted us to arrange your bookings, you may have noticed that you get to do a pre-consultation first before confirming a time slot, especially for chemical services. It is literally a consultation before the actual consultation. This helps us to facilitate work better because it allows us to gauge the right amount of time we will need to do your hair while at the same time giving you a clearer idea of the amount you will be spending at the end of the service. That is clearly something online booking is not able to do.

Presently, Facebook has an interesting feature to allow customers to request an appointment outside salon operating hours. With some customisation, Instagram and WhatsApp can do the same effectively. Again, they are all request that will still need some waiting time for our confirmation. But, think about this. Online bookings will give you that instant confirmation you need but it might not give us enough time to prepare to receive you. Although we can be quick at work, we would not want to rush behind your chair.

We have not completely chuck away the idea of online booking. I think there is still scope for improvements on scheduling. Perhaps, for different productivity goals?

Would you want to learn to be a hairstylist?

Being in business for over 15 years now got us thinking of ways to do more. Ana and Ina were young adults working at QB house; when the 10 minutes haircut trend began. At that time, our parents had a little salon station set up at home for friends and relatives that wanted to do more than just hair cut like colouring, straightening and perming. It was so that they can both continue doing all of what they have learnt and not just focus on just hair cutting.

The beauty of working with family is that you will always have that luxury of work-life balance and the flexibility of time although, we saw the difficulties our customers had when booking appointments. Over the years, we recruited and trained fresh graduates so that we could cater to more appointment request. Today, we are working together with our dedicated staffs and sometimes, with our children running around!

In February, we promoted one of our assistant to a Hairstylist. And, we would like to do it all over again! We believe in learning by experiencing. Therefore, we are looking for individuals who wants to learn a new skill. She must be intrigue to learn everything about hair. We want to impart knowledge once again and then let her soar in the art of hair. Would you or anyone you know want to take up this challenge?

* Be trained and groomed in 3 months to be an assistant hairstylist on full-time basis
* Have the opportunity to learn basic hairstyling, colour application and mixing colours, perming, straightening
* Be able to learn and experience all about hair and scalp care

We have 1 spot to fill for this program. Our goal is to teach you a new skill and let you grow to be a hairstylist. Would you or anyone you know want to fill this spot? Send your interest via this link and check the box Internship in the form. Please take your time to tell us more about your self. ANYTHING at all! We need to get to know you!

However, we seek your cooperation to update us should there be any changes in your appointments or if you will be running late.

Appointments are typically arranged back to back for each stylist. We do understand when urgent matters arises and that you will need more time to get to your appointment.
